Saturday morning dawned lovely and my model spanking new 2008 Commençal Meta 5.5 frame was sitting there glistening within the spring sunshine, but I had different issues to do earlier than I might get to grips with building it up. This bike has served me well and hopefully Kester will match the body to exchange his too small hardtail. The ride of my new bike was an absolute revelation to me. Al led the best way down ML as I tried to feel out the totally different trip of the Commençal on a downhill stretch. Luckily my entrance wheel dropped over the facet of the path however I was in a position to fling out an outrigger and save my bike – oh, and myself. After all the excitement of the racing, Bo and that i drove back to city where I dropped him back at house and eventually received to get to my Commençal construct! After determining that Al’s glasses have been in fact missing we decided that we’d roll down the Snakecharmer to Missing Link, where we might ride back the best way we got here to look for them. I decided that Koru and Lazy Fern could be the gig, as the timber keep you completely out of the wind, so I put the bike on the again of the wagon and set off for Makara Peak.
After watching them roll out (and having a giant job wrangling Bo!) we drove behind C Grade around the Eastern Bays earlier than overtaking them and B Grade as we drove to the top of the Wainui Hill. We received to the summit in time to fulfill up with John’s lovely dad and mom and watch him comfortably roll over conserving the front of his bunch in sight without wasting priceless vitality. Bodhi and i left her there to promote her wares then went and did some shopping and had some lunch in an affordable cafe before driving out to Eastbourne to watch the start of the first ever Eastbourne-Wainuiomata PNP race. First, I needed to drag my venerable GT out and strip it down. However, the bouncing up and down the street check proved that already I used to be coping with an entirely different beast to the GT – I used to be excited about the prospect of giving her an actual blast! After trundling up Koru we rode Sally Alley to test out the work the Makara Peak Supporters had put into it last weekend – superior! Corners which have monged me out for years had been traversed (relatively) elegantly as I realised that I was feeling no results of my concussion for the primary time in weeks.
As all the time I’m very proud to have John signify Roadworks so very effectively. I used to be glad to be going nowhere near Ridgeline – the wind would have made it even tougher for me than common! I’m looking ahead to many many rides on this stunning machine, and hopefully even rising my talent-set because of owning it. I as soon as received a hill prime up this hill in the previous Healing Mini-Tour, but the hill appeared nearly more than I may even ride over now! I considered a night time journey but slight concern over the lingering effects of my head knock made me suppose it was wiser to wait until daylight. I found it almost inconceivable to face, which is freaky – at over 100kg I’m not used to being pushed round! I discovered that I was riding what was for me a scorching tempo up the path, and in a cog or two higher than standard. After assembly a few slightly startled individuals riding up the proper way I parted ways with Alex as SA turned into Koru, deciding that it was better if there was solely one of us going the incorrect manner on uphill designated tracks. We hit the junction of ML and SA and slowly rode the mistaken way down the path scanning furiously for the errant shades.
This by no means conveys the ability of the Gutherly Buster! A brief cease on the pylon to drop my forks journey using the TALAS and flicking the ProPedal lever, then we hit Aratihi into the teeth of an impressive gale. I used to be enjoying the bike so much our original plan of just doing Ridgeline Extension was bypassed by the want to only keep on riding, so we determined to head down Missing Link and up Aratihi to the summit – a lot for protecting out of the wind! I used to be able to faucet it totally out besides when i passed a father/son workforce riding shiny new mtbs. Despite weighing only a hair less than the GT (13.76kg/30.33lb) it felt a lot lighter – it felt like I was riding my street bike as compared. I hit Lazy Fern feeling totally at one with my bike, relieved that I felt nice on the bike for the first time in weeks, and fizzing to open up the throttle a bit.
