Microneedling has been around for many years. and is an established part of many peoples skin regimes.

It has traditionally been done by hand with a rolller.  Over the last few years technology has the method with state of the art devices which deliver better outstanding results.

We have been performing microneedling with the Dermapenn device for over 5 years at our clinics and we have seen grow in popularity every year.

Dermapen Micro Skin Needling is a type of . Which means that it makes collagen for your skin. It involves lots of tiny surgical steel needles penetrating the skin of times per minute causing thousands of pain free straight micro injuries.

Unlike microneedling by hand, with Dermapen you can precisely set the depth of the needles from 0.5 to 2.5mm to penetrate deeply into the skin or just below the surface.

This means you can tailor the treatment to go gentler around thinner parts of the skin, like the eyes, and deeper around thicker areas and areas that need special attention like scarring.

Although needles are used the treatment is pain free. An anaesthetic gel is applied before treatment and this numbs any potential pain.

The Dermapen is a motorised version of the traditional derma roller.  Being motorised means quicker, more precise needle penetration then by the old fashioned dermal roller which is done by hand.

The needles penetrate the skin at the same depth, straight up and down so the micro punctures are all the same size. With hand rolling this can vary and you are more reliant on the skill and expertise of the practitioner doing the dermarolling.

Dermarolling also causes different shaped micro injuries as the needles are rolled causing a ‘v’ shaped crater rather then the cleaner straight line the device does.

This will affect healing as the wound is not as clean.

The purpose of the treatment is to increase the collagen production in your skin, which can help scar repair, discolouration and actively replenish and rejuvenate the overall look of the skin.

Microneedling Risks & Side Effects

Done in the hands of an experienced practitioner you should not experience any pain.

Side effects or down time from microneedling treatments include minor skin irritation for some people immediately after that may last 2-3 hours. Your skin may feel like it has been sun burnt, feeling warmer and tighter then usual.

Redness lasts up to 12 hours but can last 3-4 days.

Risks scratching or burning pain and irritation, redness and inflammation, marks, and even bleeding and scarring may occur.

How many sessions will i need?

Aftercare

Aftercare would be to treat your skin gently in the 48 hours following your treatment. Clean your skin at night with warm water and apply a light .
